Pool visits on the up

More than 7,000 people are learning to swim in Doncaster every week thanks to lessons from the town’s biggest leisure provider.

Educational swimming lessons see more than 3,000 school children make weekly curricular visits to Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust (DCLT) pools across the borough, while 4,000 people are learning in group or one-to-one lessons.

Swimming pools at DCLT venues, which includes Dearne Valley Leisure Centre, also run ‘Splash Academy’ sessions that introduce toddlers to the water.

Amanda Bradley, DCLT’s health and leisure manager, said: “It has been a fantastic year for sport and we have seen an increase in both children and adults using our swimming facilities.”
