Police praise community for coming forward

THE police have thanked the community for their help in bringing a killer to justice.

Following today’s sentencing of Gary McKeown, 37, for the manslaughter of Philip Smith of Stotfold Drive, Thurnscoe, DCI Tom Whiteley said: “This case resulted from problems in a close-knit community. There was a confrontation which escalated leading to a violent incident in which Philip Smith suffered multiple stab wounds.

“I would like to thank the community for their support in coming forward to help with the investigation.”

McKeown was sentenced to six years for the January 28 stabbing incident at his home address at Church Street, Thurnscoe.
