Police are investigating if bones found in a back garden are human.

A resident found the remains while digging up the back yard at their home in Toll Bar Road, Swinton.

Police took the bones away at about 4pm on Tuesday evening and they have been sent off for tests to determine if they are human or animal.

A police spokeswoman said: “The householder took the bones to the vets, who said they are not bones of a dog or cat.

“They had been found a number of weeks ago and police have been to the address.

“The investigating officer said it is highly unlikely they are human because of the size of them.

“But they have been sent off for DNA tests.”

One resident, who asked not to be named, said: “There was police all over the place on Tuesday. Everyone was looking out the window wondering what was happening.

“It’s generally a quiet street so we were shocked to hear what it was about.”
