Plans to build a controversial rubbish plant in a Doncaster village have been approved this afternoon.

Doncaster Council’s planning committee has given permission for the local authority to create the £6 million site in Kirk Sandall.

More than 1,100 residents in Kirk Sandall and Edenthorpe had signed a petition opposing the plans.

Council binmen will take the borough’s household waste to the site in Sandall Stones Road where it will be sorted before some of it is transported to a plant in Manvers which has been built to deal with the rubbish created by residents in Doncaster, Rotherham and Barnsley.

A report which went before the committee said the Kirk Sandall development would help reduce the amount of refuse going to landfill.
