Plan to store abrasive on Epworth farm approved

BUSINESSMAN Richard Paddison is to be allowed to use a barn at Epworth’s Broad Lane Farm for storage of speciality minerals and abrasives.

But he cannot start to do so until a passing place has been created in Newlands Lane, leading to the property.

And North Lincolnshire Council planners have insisted that the right to use the barn, alongside his home, for storage is for him alone.

Mr Paddison told members he intends to store materials associated with his business, which has five other large sites spread over the UK, but does not want to expand in Epworth.

Other sites had suffered thefts, and he felt that if storage were alongside his home, which would be occupied at night, that would act as a deterrent. But he added that he appreciated residents had concerns about the materials

he was going to store, but sought to re-assure them:

“I think the concerns are unfounded. The materials I intend to store are inert and non-hazardous. Some are of agricultural origin.”

Former councilor Barry Briggs spoke against the proposal, saying it was ‘alien to the agricultural environment’, and would not create any more jobs or support the local economy, and added that the building was outside Epworth

development boundary.

Council Leader Liz Redfern said she was concerned about the lack of passing places on the lane.
