Isle residents are warned to be on their guard against opportunist thieves, following recent incidents.

Local police were called out following an attempted break-in at Eastfield Road, Epworth, at 12.15pm yesterday (January 30).

A person described as a “dark figure” tried the door of a property but disturbed the householder who shouted at the person to go away.

The intruder then ran away down the road.

An Isle of Axholme police spokeswoman said: “Burglaries are on the increase around Epworth at present. We ask people to be vigilant, and to take security measures wherever possible.

She continued: “Keep doors locked and take all keys to bed with you at night, and wherever possible place valuables out of sight.”
