New post office to cater for residents
POST Office bosses have confirmed they will bring a permanent service to a suburb following a public consultation on the issue.
The organisation says it will be opening a counter at the No 1 Convenience Store, in Mill Lane, Warmsworth from Thursday, July 19, with longer opening hours than it has traditionally run.
The new site is 150 yards from the former Warmsworth Post Office.
Warmsworth had been without a post office since the previous branch closed in February due to the resignation of the subpostmaster and the withdrawal of premises for Post Office use.
But bosses say they have been we have been actively seeking an alternative way to provide the service since then.
Post Office Ltd spokeswoman Allison Wallace said: “During the consultation all feedback was in support of our plans to restore services to Warmsworth.
“We are confident the new service is suitably located and this move will enable us to secure Post Office services to our customers in Warmsworth in the longer term.”
She added: “The branch will open at the new location on July 19 and, following staff training, from July 30 customers will benefit from longer opening hours as the service will be open Monday to Saturday from 6am to 9pm and on Sunday from 6am to 8pm.”
Warmsworth Parish Councillor Ray Mullis said residents had greatly missed having a post office since the previous site closed five months ago.
He said: “It will be welcomed by most people in Warmsworth because they treasured their post office. We are pleased there will be some semblance of a post office counter back here.
“People have used it as a meeting place in the past for a chat. My own feeling is it will be good to be able to use it again for buying stamps and sending larger packages, and things that need to go abroad.
“I’m waiting to see the full range of services that will be on offer.”
The service will operate from an open plan counter which will offer a range of products and services.
