A young lad who regularly spends time at Rotherham’s Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice has inspired his uncle to run the Sheffield Half Marathon in his honour.
Oliver Rains, aged 13, has a rare muscular condition and uses the North Anston hospice for respite care.
Now his uncle, 32-year-old Chris Thacker, has signed up to the challenge to raise money for the cause in Oliver’s name.
Chris, a trainee gas engineer from Hillsborough, said: “Oliver receives fantastic respite care.
“The services at the hospice are amazing, so to be able to help the charity is an absolute pleasure.”
Gail Parkin, fundraiser at Bluebell Wood, said: “All the money raised will help support children with a shortened life expectancy, both at the hospice and in the community.”
