Mums rewarded after completing training
MUMS in Mexborough have been rewarded for completing a breastfeeding training course.
They took part in a programme called the La Leche League Peer Supporter Programme, which was run by the Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust (RDaSH) at Mexborough children’s centre.
The scheme trained nine mums to support other breastfeeding mums in the local community. The programme also gave them the opportunity to do voluntary work at Doncaster Royal Infirmary.
The 12-week training scheme covered all aspects of breastfeeding support, from basic breastfeeding management and language skills to the anatomy and physiology of how breastfeeding works.
Nicky Hill, family support worker at Mexborough children’s centre, said: “The training programme has equipped our peer supporters with the confidence and skills needed to support breastfeeding mums in the community.
“All the mums who completed the course have not only put in the commitment of attending each weekly session, but have also made the weeks into an enjoyable and rewarding experience for all.”
She added: “The graduation party is for us to show that we recognise their achievements, and that we value the time and effort they have put into completing the training programme.
“Like all other children’s centre learning achievements, we feel that this needs to be celebrated and recognised.”
