MP’s “disappointment” at loss of steel jobs
Tata Steel
A DEARNE MP has called for government action to help the steel industry, after over 120 job losses were announced at Tata Steel’s Aldwarke plant on Friday.
Tata issued a statement that said the changes come amid plans to restructure its Bar business and focus on supplying hi-tech products to advanced manufacturing sectors.
Wentworth and Dearne MP John Healey said: “I am disappointed that these changes mean redundancies in Rotherham. It will be a very difficult Christmas for those at risk of losing their jobs.”
He continued: “Steel making has been hit as the economy has gone back into double dip recession. We need an economic policy from the government that restores growth to the economy and helps the steel industry to pick up again.”
