A Dearne area MP marked Holocaust Memorial Day on Monday by signing a Book of Commitment in the House of Commons.
The book honours those who died during the Holocaust together with Holocaust survivors who work tirelessly to educate young people about their experiences.
Barnsley East MP Michael Dugher, whose constituency covers Wombwell, Darfield, Hoyland and Grimethorpe, also spoke at a Holocaust memorial event held in Barnsley on Sunday.
This year saw the 69th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi concentration and death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau, the site of the largest mass murder in history.
In the weeks leading up to Holocaust Memorial Day, thousands of commemorative events have been arranged by schools, faith groups and community organisations across the country, remembering all its victims and subsequent genocides.
Mr Dugher has visited both Auschwitz-Birkenau and Yad Vashem in Jerusalem - the world centre for Holocaust research, documentation, education and commemoration.
He said: “Holocaust Memorial Day is incredibly important. It is when we remember the horror of what happened and remain ever-steadfast in condemnation of racism, anti-semitism, hatred and bigotry.”
