A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a crash with a suspected drink driver near Wombwell at the weekend.
The 31-year-old Barnsley man was riding his red and black Honda motorcycle along Wombwell Lane in Blacker Hill, near to the junction with Wentworth road, when he was in collision with a black Volkswagen Golf.
Paramedics, police and fire crews were called to the scene.
The rider received treatment by the roadside and was taken by ambulance to Barnsley District General Hospital.
Police have not given details about his injuries but he was understood to be in a serious condition this afternoon.
The driver of the Golf was uninjured.
A 25-year-old Hoyland man was arrested by police and charged with driving while being over the prescribed limit.
He is due to appear in Barnsley Magistrates’ Court on Monday, September 15.
Detectives are still appealing for witnesses to the collision, which happened at 3.55pm on Sunday, August 31, to come forward.
A spokeswoman for the South Yorkshire force said: “Did you witness the collision or see the vehicles in the lead-up to the crash?
“Anyone with information should contact South Yorkshire Police on 101.”
