More roadwork misery planned for busy route

BUSINESSES claim they face closure as more works are announced on a busy stretch of Doncaster road.
Doncaster Council will conduct more resurfacing works on the A630 Balby Road until Christmas - sparking fears it could be the final nail in the coffin for some, as well as creating traffic chaos when they start on October 29.
Some resurfacing work is part of the Doncaster Connecting Infrastructure project with the rest part of the council’s road improvement programme, taking place at the same time to avoid further disruptions.
To complete the resurfacing, the inbound carriageway will be closed from Warmsworth roundabout to Greenfield Lane, Monday to Thursday, between 7pm and 6am for up to eight weeks. Signposted diversions will be in place.
New traffic signals are also being installed at the Hall Flat Lane junction which will see Oswin Avenue closed and no right turn from Balby Road into Hall Flat Lane.
Businesses on Warmsworth Road claim they have been left out of pocket and struggling to survive because of roadworks along their stretch of road which have been running on and off over the last two years - with one facing shutting up shop within the week.
Karen Norsworthy, of Karen’s Pets, said: “My takings are down about £500 a week. It’s gradually gone down and down over two years since they started on here, I think it was gas works to start with.
“I’ve probably got another week before I’ll have to close the shop.
“Customers have been coming in and saying they won’t be coming back because they don’t want to sit in traffic. A three-minute delivery for me is taking 25 minutes, and I can’t get here in a morning on time.”
Lisa Parker, manager of All Dogs Grooming Parlour, said: “We’re not happy, we have appointment times that people just aren’t getting to on time. I get here at about 8.15am in a morning and the traffic is normally stood still.”
Studio Hair and Beauty owner Nicola Delaney said: “Why do it in the run up to Christmas when people are trying to get into town?”
Dale Gibson, owner of D and T Discount, added: “I think it’s affected the business. It is like this every morning though, bumper to bumper.
“For us getting to work it can take an extra 15 minutes and we only live five minutes away.”
Peter Dale, Doncaster Council’s Director of Regeneration and Environment, said: “We are doing all we can to minimise disruption and that is why night time closures are being used to carry out the resurfacing works.
“Once again we ask motorists and road users to show patience as they will see real benefits in terms of less congestion, reduced journey times and an improved road surface once these works are complete.”
