Border Collie Meg’s warm smile and wagging tale have earned her the title of Britain’s happiest pet in a national competition.
Top dog Meg, a six-year-old Border Collie from Conisborough, trotted away with the title after Facebook fans voted her into top spot.
And there was much to celebrate for Meg and her owner Terri Knezevic who won £50 worth of vouchers.
Later this summer Meg will go head-to-head with the finalists of seven other categories in a bid to be named the Butcher’s Pet Personality of the Year and win £500.
Terri told The Star he was thrilled to bits when Meg scooped the coveted title.
She said: “Meg is such a lovely companion and it’s fantastic that she has been voted the nation’s happiest pet.
“We entered her due to her fun-loving nature so it’s great that her personality has come across.
“We donated the vouchers to the Barnsley Animal Rescue Centre and the Doris Barnham Rescue earlier this month.
“It’s great that we could give them to such worthy causes as a result of Meg’s personality.”
Butcher’s launched the competition on its Facebook page as part of its sponsorship of the hit TV show, You’ve Been Framed!
Pet owners were invited to enter a photograph or video of their animal in a variety of categories.
They included most energetic pet, happiest, naughtiest, friendliest and most adventurous.
Members of the public voted for their favourites and Meg was top of the pile.
Sarah Alexander, head of marketing development at Butcher’s, added: “At Butcher’s we want to celebrate the incredible personalities of our pets.
“All the entries have been fantastic but Meg’s just pipped them to the post.
“A well-deserved winner which highlights the joy the nation’s pets bring their owners every day. “Congratulations Meg.”
Meg is crossing her paws and hoping she will scoop the Pet Personality of The Year title to add to her trophy cabinet.
There’s still time for pet owners to enter the remaining categories in the competition which closes on August 20.
