POLICE are appealing for witnesses following an unprovoked assault in Athersley, Barnsley
On Saturday, July 16, at approximately 9pm, a 37-year-old man was walking along Lindhurst Road when a group of six young teenage males are understood to have hurled abuse at him.
The man ignored them and continued to walk away from the group, as the verbal abuse continued.
One teenager then ran up to him and pushed him down to the floor, after which others from the group ran over and allegedly started to punch and kick the 37-year-old to the head.
The group ran away leaving the man lying on the floor with a broken nose and swelling and bruising to his right eye.
One of the teenagers is described as 14 to 15-years-old and white. He is of a medium build and approximately 5ft 9ins tall. He had a long face and a long nose and spoke with a local accent.
A second teenager is described as 16 to 17-years-old and white, of a muscular build and between 5ft 10ins and 5ft 11ins tall with short brown hair. He was wearing jeans and a dark coloured jumper with either spots or squares, and also spoke with a local accent.
