A MAN died and two others were left with life-threatening injuries after a multi-vehicle crash on a Doncaster motorway.

Emergency services were called to the crash on the A1(M) near Marr yesterday, at about 6.10am, between junction 36, at Warmsworth, and junction 37, near Scawsby.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “A silver Vauxhall Astra was in collision with a white MAN tipper lorry on the northbound carriageway.

“The Astra then collided with the central barrier and came to rest across the inside lane of the carriageway, while the tipper pulled onto the hard shoulder.

“A green MAN tipper stopped to assist behind the Astra. A white DAF lorry was then in collision with the back of this.”

The DAF driver, a 47-year-old man from Leeds, was killed, while two passengers in the vehicle suffered life-threatening injuries.

One passenger, a 58-year-old man from Redditch, Worcestershire, is being treated at Sheffield’s Northern General Hospital, while the other, a 35-year-old Bedford man, is being treated at Doncaster Royal Infirmary.

The Astra driver, a 26-year-old Doncaster man, has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

The carriageway was closed for more than eight hours as a result of the collisions.

Anyone with information about the collisions is asked to call police on 101.
