A MAN who was killed following a bar brawl has been named locally as Rob Hurdley.

A murder probe has been launched by South Yorkshire Police after the 45-year-old died following an incident in the Don John Hotel pub in Maltby on Sunday evening.

Police believe a number of people were involved in a fight which left Mr Hurdley, of Dinnington, with a serious head injury.

He was taken to Rotherham District General Hospital but pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Police initially arrested a 35-year-old Maltby man over the death but he has now been released on bail pending further enquiries.

A 30-year-old Maltby man has since been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Officers are appealing for anyone who was in the High Street pub or nearby pubs on Sunday evening, at around 10pm, or anyone with information to call South Yorkshire Police on 101.
