M180 closed after lorry crash

TRAFFIC ALERT: Traffic alert.

DRIVERS are are being advised that the westbound M180 is currently closed following a serious incident.

The incident happened at around 8.30am this morning when two heavy goods vehicles collided on the westbound carriageway between junctions 1 and 2 near Thorne.

A police investigation is currently underway and drivers are being advised that the carriageway is likely to be closed for several hours.

Recovery of the vehicles and loads will also need to take place before the carriageway can re-open.

Drivers are being advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes or delay their journeys.

The Highways Agency’s regional control centre at Calder Park near Wakefield has set signs across the local motorway network to advise drivers of the closure. The Highways Agency’s National Traffic Operations Centre near Birmingham has also set signs further afield to advise drivers.

Highways Agency Traffic Officers are helping to manage traffic at the incident scene.
