Lantern tribute to tragic teen

Waiting for Video...

CHINESE lanterns lit up the clear autumn skies over Denaby as hundreds of people paid tribute to tragic teenager Liam Gill.

The symbolic lanterns were sent into the air by members of his family, friends and neighbours along with former school friends at the adventure Playing Fields. The tear-tinged vigil was attended by hundreds of people of all ages who gathered to pay their respects to the popular former De Warenne Academy pupil, who collapsed and died three weeks ago.

The outpouring of grief, was over powering for those nearest to the fun loving lad, the community also wanted to gather together, to support each other.

Although there were tears from many, for others they laughed and tried their best to hold fast to his memory, as they lit the lanterns which drifted away across Cadeby.

His grandmother, Dot Clarke, grandfather, John Allan along with his aunt Donna Clarke stayed close and linked arms, as they watched the tribute. Mrs Clarke said she was moved by the amount of people who had taken part.

Liam’s body is being retained by the Doncaster Coroner for further medical tests.

He was identified by his mother Sheena Clarke, of Crags Road, after he collapsed in Wadworth Street.

Six people, a 45 year old woman and five males aged between 15 and 39 years old have been arrested on suspicion of supplying drugs and released on bail pending further inquiries.
