A Doncaster junior school has cause for celebration, after improving its rating from satisfactory to good in a recent Ofsted inspection.
Askern Spa Junior School, on Sutton Lane, has achieved a good rating across the board from inspectors, who praised the school for its teaching standards in particular that motivate ‘pupils to do their best’.
Pupil behaviour and attainment levels, which inspectors said had improved significantly, were also cited as reasons for the school’s upgraded rating.
Headteacher Jo Giddins said everyone at the school was ‘absolutely delighted’ with the ‘good’ rating from Ofsted.
She added: “This is down to the hard work of the children, staff, governors and parents in the drive to the be the very best school we could be.
“We’re particularly happy about the fact Ofsted has acknowledged how everything is improving.”
The school was also praised by inspectors for developing a ‘strong tradition in music and the arts’.
It recently achieved the prestigious Artsmark gold award.
Areas outlined for improvement include ensuring more able pupils make good progress in every class and increasing the proportion of outstanding teaching at the school.
The aim is to enable all pupils to make ‘rapid progress’, particularly in relation to developing their grammar, punctuation and spelling skills.
