A MARRIED South Yorkshire Police officer has been jailed for nine months after having sex with a vulnerable woman he met on duty.

Dad-of-four Lee Wilcox, aged 45, a serving officer for 23 years, met the woman twice last year - when she threatened to jump from her window, and during a domestic disturbance.

The PC, who once won a national award for bravery for rescuing a man from a burning building, later returned to the 34-year-old woman’s house shortly after a shift finished at 7am.

He was still wearing his uniform, stayed for half an hour, and had sex with her.

The court heard the woman suffered from mental health problems, and later told police about the incident.

Wilcox, from Doncaster, admitted misconduct in public office and was jailed for nine months.
The Recorder of Leeds, Judge Peter Collier QC, said: “What you did was to take advantage of your position to approach a woman you had quite appropriately assisted on two occasions in your role as a constable.

“You had no doubts about her vulnerability. It was a serious abuse of your position and a serious abuse of a vulnerable person.”

The court heard Wilcox, who has resigned, was having marital difficulties and described the incident as a ‘moment of madness’.
