Isle residents asked for views on fire service charges
RESIDENTS in the Isle of Axholme are being asked for their views on how much fire chiefs should charge them for their services.
As part of Humberside Fire and Rescue’s budget planning for the next financial year bosses wants to know what residents think the organisation’s council tax precept should be.
Kevin Wilson, director of finance for the brigade said: “An increase of one per cent on a Band D property would mean an annual fire service precept cost of £78.70, an increase of 78p since last year.
“This increase would deliver an additional £184,000 in revenue for the service. This additional funding is the equivalent to the annual running costs of an average retained fire station with one fire engine.
“We are acutely aware that the financial situation is tough for all public sector organisations and we are currently working on plans to enable us to continue delivering a high level of service in the face of budget cuts.”
Three options are under consideration - no increase, a one per cent rise or an increase of two per cent.
The final precept recommendation will be considered by Humberside Fire Authority in February.
