Isle people are invited to join the Mayor of North Lincolnshire, Coun Peter Clark, in a ceremony to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day.

Schoolchildren and guests from across North Lincolnshire will attend the event in the Council Chamber on January 27 at 4pm.

The Mayor extends an invitation to all local people to join him, to lay a stone in memory of the millions of people who lost their lives in the Holocaust.

Journeys is the theme for 2014 and the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust is asking people to learn about the journeys that brought survivors to the UK and how, in many instances, journeys of return have been part of the experience of rebuilding.

Holocaust Memorial Day brings together people from different faiths and backgrounds to remember the victims of the Holocaust, Nazi persecution and subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.

Anyone who would like to attend the ceremony should call the civic office on 01724 296346.

Mr Clark said: “I would like to invite people of all faiths and backgrounds to attend the ceremony on 23 January for Holocaust Memorial Day and take time to commemorate those who lost their lives. I’m sure many people will want to pay their respects.

“The ceremony will help to raise awareness and understanding of the Holocaust and conflicts that continue to take place around the world where millions of people lost their lives.”
