Plans have been revealed to transform a Mexborough church into a hostel for vulnerable adults.
Trustees have submitted proposals to Doncaster Council to change Bank Street Methodist Church into a shelter for men and women.
The planning application for a change of use explains that the decision was taken because of ‘dwindling church membership’.
Trustees said: “The existing church building is in the process of being decommissioned as result of dwindling congregation from the community and the ever rising expense of insuring and maintaining the building.
“With much consideration, the trustees feel that the best use of the building of this size would be most beneficial to a wider community if converted to a shelter for vulnerable adults.”
The proposal will be decided by the council’s planning board.
No determination date has yet been set.
