A horse had to be rescued by fire crews after landing itself in deep water in a Doncaster canal.
Crews from Thorne and Adwick fire stations attended the incident just off Selby Road in Thorne just after 6am this morning after the animal was spotted in the Stainforth and Keadby Canal.

Officers as well as RSPCA officials spent several hours at the scene lifting the horse to safety.

The animal was checked over by vets and was apparently none the worse for its ordeal.
