High Street drama attracts crowds

A SCREAMING girl, perched on the top of a town centre office building, caused chaos in Parkgate.

Traffic was diverted and crowds gathered as the hysterical 16-year old hurled abuse at people on the street below.

Three fire engines, three police cars and two ambulances attended the drama at Rawmarsh Hill on the afternoon of March 10.

Fire officers eventually managed to carry the scantily clad teenager down a ladder by force, as she continued to shout and struggle.

Hazel Denham, who works at a shop close to Custom House where the drama took place, witnessed some of the action.

She said: "Everybody came out to see what was going on. The girl was yelling and flailing her arms and legs. The firemen had a hard job getting control of her....they brought a load of guttering down in the process.

"The girl was taken away on a stretcher."

The main route through Parkgate leading up to Rawmarsh was closed for an hour. The girl was later said to have recovered and was believed to be back at home.
