Generous donation to help baby unit
The Neonatal Unit at DRI has received a donation of over 3,000 towards the care of babies from the Doncaster branch of Swedish bank, Handelsbanken. Pictured at the presentation are: (L-R) Neil Ebden, Sr Alison Boldy, Sr Michelle Clark, Ward Sister with baby Skyeler Overton and Carol Whitehouse.
A STATE-OF-THE-ART system which helps premature and young babies to breathe can be bought for a children’s unit following a donation of over £3,000.
The machine, called an Optiflow System, allows oxygen to be delivered to babies comfortably, helping them to breathe.
It will be bought for the Neonatal Unit at DRI with £2,500 of the donation from the Doncaster branch of Swedish bank, Handelsbanken.
The remainder of the cash will go towards funds for the unit and further equipment.
The money came from a summer ball at Ye Olde Bell in Barnby Moor where staff from the bank took part in a raffle and auction.
A total of £3,110 was raised through the ball and a further £270 was made by staff member, Helen Shirley, who took part in the Great Manchester Cycle in June.
Neil Ebden, branch manager at Handelsbanken, said: “We are pleased to be able to support the Neonatal Unit. Many people have involvement with children’s services at the hospital, so it is very close to people’s hearts.”
Carol Whitehouse, account manager support at Handelsbanken, added: “We wanted to give something back to those who help many babies and their families through difficult times. We’re delighted that our donation will be used to purchase such an important piece of equipment for the unit.”
Sister Alison Boldy, senior sister on the Neonatal Unit, said: “We would like to thank everyone at Handelsbanken and who attended the ball. This is a fantastic donation and will greatly help the unit to purchase vital pieces of equipment.”
Handelsbanken, based at Sidings Court in Lakeside, offers local relationship banking with products and services tailored to the needs of their personal and business banking customers.
