Further rain expected in Doncaster area with flood alerts still in place
flood alerts and road closures remain in place across Doncaster with more rain expected later today.
Doncaster Council, community flood wardens and police officers will continue to monitor water levels across the borough along with road and bridge closures.
Further rain is expected today however the Environment Agency have advised that river levels have now peaked and are beginning to level out.
Deputy mayor Cynthia Ransome said: “Rivers remain high around the borough and the main problem is surface water.
“I would like to thank the key council staff who have been working around the clock as well as our flood wardens who have been helping monitor river levels.
“Residents are advised to keep checking the council and Environment Agency websites and social media for the latest updates.
“Drivers are reminded to pay attention to bridge and road closures as water might be fast flowing and deeper than expected.”
Flood alerts remain in place at the Ea Beck from Hemsworth to Thorpe-in-Balne, as well as the River Went area from Ackworth Moor Top to the River Don, the River Dearne from Denby Dale to Mexborough.
Fordstead Lane from Barnby Dun to Arksey remains closed due to flooding, as does Thorpe Bank Lane in Thorpe Marsh. Also closed are Jubilee Bridge at Fishlake and Kirk Bramwith Bridge at Kirk Bramwith.
Drivers are being warned to drive carefully and avoid areas where road closures are in place.
