It’s time to get active across the Isle!

North Lincolnshire Council’s Sports Development Team has secured £234,500 of Sport England funding to get more people involved in sport and physical activity.

Further investment of £660,000 has been made through the council’s public health team to support ‘Active Together’ over the next three years. Increasing people’s physical activity is a key priority for the North Lincolnshire Health and Well-being Board.

Active Together will provide a large fun-filled programme that will be largely family focused, but will have opportunities for older people, and women and girls particularly, too.

It is well documented that targeting adults who are significantly inactive (to engage in 150 minutes of activity per week) produces the greatest reduction in chronic disease.

Frances Cunning, Director of Public Health at North Lincolnshire Council said: “Just increasing levels of physical activity to 150 minutes a week can have considerable impacts on your health and quality of life. Not only will this greatly reduce your chances of developing chronic diseases, there are many other positives, including weight loss, increased self-esteem, making friends and having fun.”

Coun Carl Sherwood, cabinet member for Customer Services, Sport and Leisure at North Lincolnshire Council, said:

“Active Together will provide a great opportunity to make family time, active time. Engaging in physical activity as a family can be a fun way to get everyone moving.”

The programme will be made up of a whole range of opportunities including family multi-sport programmes, swimming, fitness classes, opportunities to get active in your local parks plus much more.

However as Active Together is a brand new programme to North Lincolnshire, input is needed to help shape the programme.
