Fires in town

FIREFIGHTERS were kept busy over the weekend at two fires in Mexborough.

Arsonists set fire to a children’s play house in the back garden of a property on Hills Close on Saturday evening.

The blaze ripped through the plastic toy and also damaged part of wooden decking.

A crew from Dearne Fire Station attended the scene at 7.15pm and spent 30 minutes tackling the blaze.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue service said it was started deliberately and police have launched an investigation.

The following night, Dearne firefighters were called to Ibbotson’s scrap yard on Whitelee Road at 11pm.

They used a single hose reel to put out a fire which ripped through a caravan for 30 minutes.

The cause of the blaze was accidental.
