Fire near scene of shooting

A ROAD that was a hive of police activity on Friday, following a mystery shooting, was closed again this morning due to a fire.

Residents of Doncaster Road woke to see emergency services in the area again, and smoke from the vicinity of the house where a man was shot last week.

A fire spokeswoman said the blaze was a garage fire, attended by two fire engines at 4.35am this morning. The fire service left before 7am but the area remained cordoned off by police tape as residents left their houses to go to work.

In Friday’s incident that stunned the neighbourhood, Tyrone Woodhead was left for dead when he opened his front door at his home on Doncaster Road, Wath-upon-Dearne, to be blasted in his body.

The 42-year-old, who is married with a young daughter, was still thought to be fighting for his life in hospital last night, as police continued their search for the gunman responsible.
