A HOSPITAL security manager made redundant from his job has won an unfair dismissal battle with his former employers.

Vladimir Milinkovic lost his job with Riverside Healthcare Ltd in March of last year after being told he was being made redundant in an effort to cut costs, the Free Press was told.

The 53-year-old was also left “embarrassed” after he was escorted from the premises and put on garden ing leave in January having been told he was at risk of redundancy before he was let go two months later.

The former prison manager from Bentley, enlisted the help of his Prison Officers Association (POA) union which brought in Thompsons Solicitors to take on the Sprotbrough-based firm where he had worked for five years.

He was responsible for security and co-ordinated health and safety across the site at Cheswold Park Hospital in Cheswold Lane.

His case was heard at Leeds Employment Tribunal in October, November and February. The judge ruled in favour of Mr Milinkovic on the grounds he was unfairly dismissed.

After the hearing Mr Milinkovic said: “I felt extremely upset that I was escorted from the premises and put on gardening leave. I felt like I was being punished and the decision to make me redundant had been made long before it was announced.”

He added: “It was embarrassing to be led away. I knew it wasn’t right so I had to fight it and not let them get away with it.”

During his case, Thompsons argued that Riverside Healthcare Ltd should have had a larger pool of positions at risk of redundancy including the health and safety officer’s role.

Also, during Mr Milinkovic’s garden leave, the health and safety officer was put in charge of his duties and later promoted to the new position of risk and safety manager.

The new position was an amalgamation of Mr Milinkovic’s previous role and the health and safety officer role - a job Thompsons said their client was not given a fair opportunity to apply for.

Riverside Healthcare Ltd agreed to an out of court settlement of compensation which cannot be disclosed for legal reasons.

Mr Milinkovic is now a self employed contract worker for Doncaster and Rotherham councils.

Riverside Healthcare Ltd refused to comment.
