Estate agency cyclists prove they are just magic

A group of intrepid cyclists from the haart estate agency group have raised a staggering £70,000 for the Magic Moments charity, to take children from hospices across the UK to Disneyland Paris.

Half of the 40-strong group cycled right across the country from west coast to east, covering an amazing 254 miles in three days. En route they were joined by cyclists from Cardiff to Bath (63 miles) and from Clapham Common to Colchester (74 miles), with the ride culminating at the company’s headquarters.

haart managing director Russell Jervis, who completed the whole ride, said: “It was an incredible experience, one I’ll never forget.

“Day two was particularly gruelling, with ten hours in the saddle through driving rain and a head wind, covering 117 miles.

“But we battled through, giving us all he most amazing sense of achievement when we reached the end.”

Chairman of the trustees for Magic Moments, Jonathan Martin, said: “This year, we broke all records for the funds raised and for the first time ever we will be taking two trips at different times of the year to Disneyland Paris, accommodating around 100 children and family members.

“I would like to say a huge thank you to all the cyclists who took part, all those who helped and sponsored us and to the event organisers Maximum Adventure.

“We are now turning our attention to next year’s ride – who knows just how far our cyclists will be willing to venture next time.”

The Magic Moments Children’s Charity was set up in 1998 by Alick Smith, the then Chairman of the UK’s largest independent estate agency Spicerhaart, and his wife Val. The charity was formally known as the Fantasy Charity Fund, the charity has raised in excess of £1m over the years and is dedicated to helping children from our supported hospices and their families on annual trips to Disneyland Paris.

Any additional funds in the charity pot have historically been used to provide vital equipment, electrical appliances, hoists to lift the children in and out of their beds or baths, and toys for the children’s hospices.

The charity currently supports 12 children’s hospices around the country that are situated close to the branch network which enables staff to get involved and see the difference the fundraising makes.

Colleagues fundraise all year with the main aim to take families to Disneyland Paris every year for a special trip to spend time together. Sometimes families have recently been bereaved and they find the support at this very difficult time absolutely invaluable. In 2014 a record 209 people (45 families) were taken to Disneyland Paris for four days.
