The past caught up with retiring headteacher Roger Marshall, as former colleagues dropped by to see him during an ‘open afternoon’ that marked the end of a 13-year headship at Westwoodside C of E Primary School.

Mr Marshall began his teaching career in Watership Down, Hampshire, in 1975. He moved to Hong Kong, then Berlin as he took up posts within service children’s schools, and taught at a private school in Singapore before returning to work at schools in North Lincolnshire.

He worked in a number of primary and junior schools before taking up the Westwoodside headship in September 2000.

Mr Marshall said: “It has been a privilege to work with so many positive and hard working adults and children at Westwoodside.”

And a joint statement issued by the school’s staff and board of governors said: “We would like to wish Roger a long and happy retirement.

“He has always had the children’s interests at heart and will be missed by everyone in January.”
