A Doncaster street is in shock today after a man died in a dramatic night time shooting incident.

Scenes of crime officers are spending most of the day at a cordoned-off house in Galway Road, Bircotes, after the body of a 37-year-old man was found in a bedroom in the early hours. Police say he died from suspected shotgun injuries.

A woman, named locally as Shani Cockrell, aged 33, found at the address was taken to hospital, also suffering from shotgun injuries. Her condition is serious but stable.

Two children in the house, boys aged four and two, were unharmed and taken to a place of safety by police officers after the gruesome discovery shortly before 1am.

The dead man is understood to be Paul White, the partner of Shani, whose parents live in the same street.

Gerald and Julia Cockrell, who are in their 50s, live just over the road but family members have declined to make any comment about the tragedy.

It is is understood Shani has a brother and sister, Jez and Lisa. She is believed to have moved into the property with Mr White more than a year ago.

A post-mortem examination is being carried out to determine the cause of death of the man.
