Engineers worked late into the night to ensure one of Doncaster’s busiest roads was open this morning, following yesterday’s bridge collapse
The A630 Cleveland Street in Doncaster was open in both directions in time for this morning’s rush hour.
Cleveland Street was closed from the Trafford Way roundabout to Balby Bridge from 11am yesterday after a footbridge was struck by a block paving lorry, causing it to collapse onto the town-bound carriageway.
Work to remove the footbridge continued into the night and the A630 reopened around midnight after the damaged bridge sections were removed by crane.
Gill Gillies, assistant director of environment at Doncaster Council, said: “I would like to thank staff involved for their hard work throughout the day and night to clear the route. I would also like to thank drivers and residents for their patience during the incident.”
