Doncaster Racecourse recorded a significant increase in average attendance figures in 2013, contributing to Arena Racing Company’s overall record performance.

The Town Moor racecourse welcomed some 250,000 people to 35 racedays and three live music evenings last year amounting to a 10 per cent increase in average attendance.

This progress has gone some way towards an overall increase in average attendances across ARC’s 15 racecourses with the group reporting that figures are 5.2 per cent up, outperforming the industry average which decreased by 2.6 per cent.

In 2013 Doncaster Racecourse implemented a number of group-wide customer initiatives including the ARC Annual Membership scheme and the Young Hooves Kids’ Club to help boost attendance figures.

In addition it hosted more fixtures than any other dual purpose course in the country, saw three top name music acts take to the stage during the summer months and secured several customer service awards.

Mark Spincer, managing director of Doncaster Racecourse said: “The upturn in attendance that Doncaster Racecourse experienced last year, which contributed to an increase in group-wide performance, is highly encouraging.

“Customer initiatives such as the ARC Annual Member scheme, the Young Hooves Kids Club, live music and a more targeted customer communications strategy all played their part, but it’s also important to recognise the brilliant job undertaken by the hospitality team and grounds staff in ensuring that the course is in the best possible condition for each and every race that is run here and that guests leave us having had a thoroughly entertaining day.

“This will be a tough year with the World Cup in Brazil competing for the sporting and leisure pound but we are still keen to do more to attract racegoers.

“We’re set to host more racedays than ever before with a record 36 fixtures and are poised to announce more big name music acts in the coming weeks. As our knowledge of our customers increase we plan to bring in fresh initiatives during 2014.”

Attendances at ARC’s racecourses increased by 6.3 per cent in total compared to an industry increase of 1.8 per cent.
