Don Valley MP Caroline Flint has described the ditched plan to privatise three Doncaster prisons as “a shambles.”
Commenting on the Government’s decision to scrap the privatisation of the Doncaster cluster of prisons - HMP/YOI Hatfield, HMP Moorland and HMP Lindholme - Ms Flint said: “The end of this Serco-shambles will be a relief to the staff that work in these prisons.
“This competition has been incompetently managed from start to finish.
“The Government promised huge savings, caused many months of uncertainty to staff and blighted attempts to improve standards at these prisons.
“I am disappointed that the Minister has chosen to make this decision public on a Friday, rather than face MPs over this disastrous process.
“We now need to know the full cost of this competition, given the cuts in prison staffing and the crisis in prison capacity.”
The three prisons concerned are all in the Don Valley constituency.
