Latest Government figures show that South Yorkshire’s New Enterprise Allowance mentoring service, led by the Doncaster Chamber team, is ranked fourth out of 36 districts for both its mentoring service and the number of business start-ups created and trading.

In addition to this, in April this year, the partnership started their 2000th NEA business, meaning that now over 2000 people in South Yorkshire have signed off benefits and are independently trading.

The New Enterprise Allowance is a Government initiative aimed at helping benefit claimants to start their own business through financial help and the provision of tailored one-to-one support from experienced business mentors.

Doncaster Chamber is the nominated lead partner for the NEA mentoring service for the South Yorkshire area, which is consistently exceeding the number of business start-ups expected.

Vic Holbrey, head of business support at Doncaster Chamber, said: “The Doncaster Chamber and our partners are proud to support local people into business through the NEA scheme - helping to empower people into setting up their own businesses is extremely rewarding and also has clear benefits for our local economy.

“Through our expert support and professional service we are able to guide our customers every step of the way and see businesses develop from an initial idea to a fully functional business.”
