Doncaster drink driver hit parked car

A drink driver who wrecked somebody else’s car before driving away had got behind the wheel to ‘cool off’ after a row with his partner, Doncaster magistrates heard.

The Volkswagen Golf driven by Michael Peter Rediken caused extensive damage to a parked Vauxhall Astra in Radcliffe Lane, Scawthorpe, in the early hours of January 17 and he then drove back to his home round the corner in Bailey Mews.

In the debris left behind was a VW badge and it was soon traced to Rediken’s house, where the damaged car was on the drive.

The 30-year-old forklift driver gave a breath sample more than twice the legal limt and pleaded guilty to driving over the alcohol limit. He was fined £200 and banned from driving for two years.

Defence solicitor Ross Wagstaff said Rediken never intended driving that night while drinking at home but there was an argument ‘and foolishly he took the decision to drive off’.

“As a result of the disqualification it is likely he will be out of work. This will cause the family significant financial difficulties but he accepts responsibility, having driven when he knew he was under the influence of alcohol.

“There is no doubt there will be significant difficulties in being able to find other work.”
