Doncaster churches set for repair grants

TWO Doncaster churches have been awarded Heritage Lottery Fund grants for vital structural repairs.

St Mary the Virgin Church, Sprotbrough, which is also Grade I-listed, has been given £76,000 to repair and restore the north aisle and vestry roofs, including masonry repairs.

And Christ Church, Doncaster, which is also Grade II-listed, has been awarded £174,000 for repairs to the roofs of the north aisle and plasterwork to the nave, gallery and chancel ceilings and south and north porch.

They are among 17 places of worship across Yorkshire and Humber awarded a share of £1.8 million in a bid to help preserve the buildings.

All Saints Church, Wath Upon Dearne, has been awarded £112,000 to help pay for structural repairs to the nave roof of the Grade I-listed building, as well as graffiti removal and stone repairs.

This money comes from the Repair Grants for Places of Worship scheme.
