DON'T STEAL OUR ROAD SIGN!

A CONISBROUGH street has been hit by pranksters desperate to pinch a cheeky road sign.

Countless signs at the entrance to Butt Hole Road have been stolen in recent years but it is no laughing matter for one resident.

Pensioner Arthur Laycock, 72, has had enough of the petty thieves and has called for Doncaster Council to replace the signs - and make them thief-proof.

Said Arthur: "I am fed up with it, but we have had signs pinched for a while now. Of course, the name of the street means something rude in American English.

"Not long ago we even had a group of female students from Sheffield University stopping to have their pictures taken. They all lined up in front of one of the signs and pointed their bums up in the air."

The street should have three road signs but at present there is only one.

"There have been attempts to change the name in the past, after a former resident's children were teased at school. But I'm not bothered about changing the name now, I just want the signs back," added Arthur, a Butt Hole Road resident for more than 20 years.

A Doncaster Council spokesman said new signs were on the way.
