Dog attack girl could be scarred for life

A FIVE year old Thurnscoe girl could be scarred for life after she was subjected to a terrifying attack by a dog just yards from her home.

Little Amber Churm was taken to hospital after she was bitten on the face and arm by a Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

Her eight year old sister Jade managed to save her from further injury by kicking out at the dog, before the youngster's horrified parents realised what had happened.

Amber's mum Kelly said her daughter had been left traumatised by by the attack on Merrill Road last Sunday (June 8).

The girls were playing with water balloons and she was bending down to pick one up when the dog came and bit her face and then her arm. It was out on its own. Her dad ran out when he heard her screaming.

"Since she was bitten she has been waking up crying and she is very wary about dogs now. We only live down the road from the primary school and I dread to think what could happen if the dog is allowed out again." The wound on her arm became infected and Amber had to go on a course of antibiotics.

Police said the owner of the dog had been traced and was assisting with their enquiries.
