A LEVEL crossing where youngster Emma Lifsey suffered fatal injuries had been due to be upgraded, a report has revealed.
The four-year-old died after the car she was travelling in was struck by a train at Beech Hill level crossing on the Doncaster to Lincoln line at Misson Springs on Tuesday afternoon.
And a report by rail operator Network Rail prepared last year has revealed changes to improve the crossing’s safety were due to be made from next April.
The 40-page report said the crossing’s half barriers were due to be replaced with full barriers.
Emma, of Haxey, died in the early hours of Wednesday morning in Sheffield Children’s Hospital after the Volvo she was in, driven by a 67-year-old woman, collided with a single carriage East Midlands Trains service between Westwoodside and Finningley at 12.30pm on Tuesday.
