A Dearne community group has won a long running battle to stop a war memorial from being moved from its current location.

The memorial in Bolton-upon-Dearne contains the names of more than 40 young men who fought and died in the First World War.

Its future was thrown into doubt two years ago when the Charity Commission suggested it should be re-sited.

But the Friends of Bolton-upon-Dearne War Memorial managed to secure listed status for the memorial, which protects it from being moved.

Their campaign was supported by a 6000 name petition from village residents and John Healey MP.
