Dad's charity skydive in memory of daughter

AS HEARTBROKEN dad Graham Hincliffe descended through the clouds on his charity parachute jump, he saw an awe-inspiring sight.

While plumeting towards the ground he looked up and witnessed a rainbow forming over the horizon - a tearful moment which brought back memories of his daughter Bobby Jay.

For this poigniant day - April 29, 2009 - should have marked the first birthday of the tragic tot, who died last year when she rolled over onto a nappy bag and suffocated.

Describing the tear-jerking moment on the parachute jump, doting dad Graham said: "It was a very emotional day all round, but seeing that rainbow added to it.

"The man who I did the jump with said 'You're doing it for your daughter's birthday?', I said yes and he went 'Well she's sent you a rainbow'."

"It was a beautiful moment and I started crying, I couldn't help it."

In what was a cruel twist of fate, his daughter's death also came on the same day as his 32nd birthday on October 29 last year.

That day is now too tough for Graham to bear, and he has pledged never to celebrate on his birthday ever again.

The brave Goldthorpe man - who has three other children - overcame his fear of heights at Langar Airfield in Nottinghamshire and jumped to raise money for a charity which carries out research into cot deaths.

He said: "I was jumping at 13,500ft and when I was just going out of the plane I thought 'My God this is about three miles up!'

"It was a brilliant experience, but also petrifying. I thought of my daughter which gave me a lot of strength.

"I think it has definitely cured my fear of heights. I would even do it again."

Graham has raised around 2,500 for the Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths and said he aims to continue raising money in years to come.

His plight was boosted by a raffle of football match tickets at the Waterfront Golf centre in Wath, plus various pubs and Everest Indian restaurant in Wath also helped.
