A curvy model from Doncaster is hoping to cause ripples on the web after being signed up as a swimwear model for a string of retailers.
Elena Raouna, who shot to fame last year after being named Miss British Beauty Curve for her plus size measurements, is now dipping her toe into the world of swimsuit modelling after her pictures were spotted by an online retailer.
And she is hoping that her latest success will put her lengths ahead by showing bigger women can be beautiful and proud of their bodies.
She said: “Everything is going really well and things are looking really promising this year.
“I was contacted by a firm called Swimdress Boutique who saw my photos on Twitter and they told me they liked them and would I be interested in modelling for them.
“I jumped at the chance and had a great time doing the shoot.”
Former Campsmount School pupil Elena, 22, who lives in Norton, fits her modelling assignments in between shifts at family fish and chip shop, Harry’s Fish Bar in Dunsville.
As well as featuring on the Swimdress Boutique website, the pictures will also feature on Amazon, eBay and internet clothing retailer ASOS.
She said: “They are really glad to have me as the new face of the range because they wanted to show that fuller figured women can be confident and comfortable in swimwear.
“A lot of women are put off buying clothes when they see them modelled by thinner girls because they can’t envisage how they are going to look on them. “By modelling plus size clothing I can put across that girls can feel good and look good in their own skin and there’s nothing wrong with being plus size.”
Elena, a size 16, was a size 22 when she scooped her crown last year - and is hoping to add to her success with more beauty contests lined up for this year.
She is signed up to take part in Miss Face of The Year and Miss Real Girl and added: “I have had an amazing time since I won.
“The feedback has been really positive and people have said loads of nice things to me. I am having a really good time and I hope this year is just as good.”
There’s a girl works down the chip shop making it big
Elena first found fame last summer when she was named Miss British Beauty Curve 2013 at a ceremony in June.
The Norton woman breezed through a series of rounds and interviews at the contest in Surrey to land the crown - and her victory saw her make national newspaper headlines.
One headline was ‘fish and hips’ in reference to her job behind the counter of family fish and chip shop, Harry’s Fish Bar in Dunsville.
She triumphed in an online vote against scores of other local girls to land her place at the final where she picked up her crown and sash, DKNY handbag, jewellery, flowers cash and a photoshoot in Manchester.
