Crash at Wentworth leaves two seriously hurt

TWO pensioners suffered serious injuries in a collision at Wentworth, Rotherham.

Police are seeking witnesses to the incident that occurred at 4.44pm yesterday, January 8, on Cortworth Lane, around 100 metres northeast of the junction with Clayfield Lane.

A blue Rover 45 is believed to have emerged from the entrance to a building supplies premises on to the main carriageway and into the path of a green Volvo S40, resulting in a collision.

The Rover driver, a 75-year-old woman from Longley Park, Sheffield, suffered serious internal injuries. Her passenger, a 67-year-old woman from Arbourthorne, Sheffield, sustained serious lower leg injuries. Both are currently detained in the city’s Northern General Hospital.

South Yorkshire Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision, or to anyone who saw the manner in which the cars were being driven just prior to the incident.
