MORE than 200 guests at a Halloween-themed engagement party had a fright when it turned out to be a wedding reception.

Jason Moorhouse married partner Dale Lockwood, 25, in a low-key civil ceremony at Doncaster Register office on Friday but did not tell anyone about their nuptials, instead breaking the news during their ‘engagement’ party.

Hairdresser Jason, 26, said: “No one was expecting it, we fooled them all.”

“It’s been agony,” he admits. “Working in hairdressing it’s hard to keep anything a secret but somehow I managed it.”

The only people in on the plan besides the couple were their immediate family, who attended a more sombre suited wedding at the registrar office at 9.30am.

Jason added: “We didn’t get married in Halloween fancy dress because I know we’ll have to look at those photos for the rest of our lives.”

The newly-weds then donned special fancy dress outfits with Jason dressed as Dracula and Dale as the Mad Hatter to join their 200 guests.

Guests at the spooky wedding reception, held at the Hallcross pub in Hallgate, Doncaster, tucked into a buffet of trick or treat sweets and were entertained by fire eaters, glass walkers and live bands.

Dale, from Bentley, added: “I couldn’t sleep during the run to it because I was worried something would go wrong but everything ran really smoothly.

“I just loved the shocked looks on peoples’ faces when they realised what was actually happening.

“It was something a little bit different but it’s exactly what we wanted.

But the best bit was we managed to fool everyone, even our closest friends. It really was the ultimate Halloween shock.”
