UP TO 200 people went to a coffee morning at Misterton Fire Station, helping its retained firefighters to raise £190 for charity.
The money is to be split between the Firefighters’ charity and the Heartstart Scheme, set up by the British Heart Foundation to help volunteers to learn skills which could keep people alive until professional healthcare can arrive.
Retained Firefighter Andy Horton said the event had simply been about letting people from the village into the fire station and to have a chat, though they did have vehicles on display.
He put the good turnout down to the community spirit that exists in the village.
“We don’t get paid by the fire service to turn out to help the parish council, and get involved with things like litter picking. I think that’s recognised, which is why we are so well supported,” he said.
